Jungle Beach Hotel Manuel Antonio

I don't like leaving a bad review, but the glowing reviews need balancing. The location is good and the staff were good. The room itself made it hard to get comfortable, though. That mattress was unbelievably hard, like thin plywood on springs. A hotel bed is the foundation of a room, and I can overlook plenty if I can sleep well. I couldn't here. The bathroom was damp, dark, and badly lit, and the shower water barely got beyond lukewarm. Our shower head was taped to a stick, couldn't be moved, and sprayed at the wall. The AC kept switching itself off, so I'd wake up sweating. When I did finally get to sleep, the monkeys were screaming around 3 or 4 in the morning. We left a night early because we couldn't face another one. This place needs work, and pretty much any other mattress would be an improvement.

Wildlife all around, great food, and really helpful staff at the restaurant. The suite worked perfectly for our family of five, and the beach is an easy walk away. We loved this place.

I'm reviewing just the restaurant. I spent three days in Manuel Antonio and ate dinner here every night. Carlos was wonderful, and we had great conversations. He also told us the best spot on the beach to find sloths and monkeys. The fried shrimp was delicious, and happy hour was always fun. I highly recommend it, especially if you're staying nearby.

We loved our two-night stay. From the hotel courtyard we watched birds, including toucans and Oropendolas, and the restaurant was a good place to eat after a visit to the park. The room was spacious, the bed was beautifully made when we arrived, and there was hot water. Great location, and I'd recommend staying here when coming to tikal.
