I'll post more later, but these are some photos of the grounds. After months of negotiations, I still didn't get a refund. We had booked two rooms online just two hours earlier on a less busy weekday in February, then arrived to find that the rooms and building smelled so strongly of varnish that I immediately developed asthma. Outside the edge of the patio, some terpene-rich varnish had dripped into a pile and hardened. Management insisted this was just the normal smell of tropical hardwoods and refused a refund, offering a free room next year instead. Yeah, right. We had booked because they said there was a restaurant and it was late, but there was no restaurant. We stayed somewhere else, which was really nice. Not here.

From its hilltop spot just outside San Vito, the hotel has a good location. The shower had warm water, but the sink didn't, which made shaving harder. Breakfast was cooked to order and really delicious. The ladies were attentive and happy to help with traveler needs like laundry, directions, and advice on local attractions. For a modest price, it has the service you'd expect from a BnB. I'll stay here again and again.

The pool seating is spacious and peaceful, with a beautiful wide view of the area. The food was prepared exquisitely and was very, very, very delicious. It's a clean, secure hotel, and the staff are friendly and helpful. Vito is a great host. We'll be back for every occasion. Pura Vida to Hotel Hacienda and all its staff. Ciao.
