We booked the casita through VRBO and had a confirmation, but when we arrived, someone else was in the room and it was already booked. They said this had happened to them before. Completely unacceptable. The receptionist, Manfred, was kind. His manager, also named Manfred, showed no apology, was extremely unhelpful and offered no solution. He wouldn’t even cancel the reservation, so we’re now fighting VRBO for a refund. Finding somewhere at the last minute on a Saturday was really hard and cost us a lot, including a taxi to new accommodation. We don’t recommend this hotel. Do not book through VRBO or another third party.

We booked Casa Higuerion for three nights while exploring Monteverde, so we weren’t around the property much. It was roomier than we expected, and only about a five-minute walk into town. For pickups, other people suggested just saying Hotel Don Taco, which seems easiest. The main drawback is the busy road nearby. Big trucks and motorcycles can be noisy in the morning and evening. Still, for the price and how close it is to town, that’s a fair tradeoff.

We had a really pleasant stay. The bathroom was roomy and clean, and the beds were very comfortable. The receptionists were friendly and helpful, even helping me put together a birthday surprise for my partner.

The cottage is lovely, and the location is good. Booking things through the hotel was nice too. It’s at Hotel Don Taco, though, and that should be made clearer. Once we found it, check-in was easy. It wasn’t quiet, with lots of motorcycles passing and dogs barking. We’d underestimated how central Monteverde would feel. Even so, everything else was great.

The bed was comfortable, and the place was spacious, beautiful, and well located. We loved the house and the service. It was one of the best places we stayed on the whole trip, and I’d recommend it 100%.
