The hosts were very welcoming, and we had fun trying to chat with them using our very limited Spanish. Breakfast was tasty and included in the price. We had "tinto" both days, rice, beans, and scrambled egg. For the money, it's a great cheap stay. The rooms are basic, as you'd expect at this price, and the hostel sits on a fairly busy road, so expect traffic noise. It's just a few minutes' walk down the hill to town for bars, restaurants, and supermarkets. There are lots of places to book tours and buses.

The house felt small and crowded, and it was quite loud and smelled of mold. My room's window faced a fairly busy street, which made it harder than it should have been to fall asleep. There are better places in the area at a similar price, and I wouldn't return. The hosts were wonderful, but they didn't speak English, and my Spanish isn't where it should be, so communication could have gone more smoothly.

After driving five hours from Brasilito, we found out our booked hostel had a plumbing problem and couldn’t give us a room. Hostel Paco House took us in at the last minute and kept our bags safe while we went to dinner. Someone was always around to let us back in, even after hours. Breakfast the next morning was on the house, with really fresh fruit and great coffee. It’s close to everything you need.

The owners are so friendly and happy to help with tours or any information you need. Breakfast is included, the price was really good, and it’s about 300 meters from the center. Such a nice hostel, one of the best I’ve stayed in.

We meant to ask Mario and Zadi at Paco House what was open around town while we were traveling during COVID, but ended up spending all four nights of our Monteverde stay there. With almost no other tourists around, being made to feel at home so far from ours meant a lot. They fed us well, gave us plenty of chances to practice Spanish, and Mario took us on a couple of hikes. That local family experience was special. Mario and Zadi were lovely, and I’ll remember the time with them for a long while. I’d recommend this family to anyone.
