Monte Fresco Hostel Boutique

The staff were friendly throughout, and the cottage was clean. We stayed for two days in Monteverde and had booked a studio with a garden view. It was a basic cottage beside the hotel, with a kitchenette, bathroom, and small veranda. The shower setup was especially makeshift: a plastic pipe came out of the wall, with the water heater attached, and its power connection looked temporary. Breakfast was decent, though nothing special, with a choice of traditional food, sweet pancakes, or ham and eggs with pancakes. The hotel sits in the residential area of Valle Bonito at the edge of town. The road there is in very poor shape, and the area is noisy, with dogs, cars, and motorcycles going by constantly. Walking into town takes about 20 minutes. For the price, I think the value could be better.

The people working here made us feel at home and were very accommodating. My boyfriend and I spent two nights here while visiting Monteverde. The rooms were clean, breakfast was included each morning, and fresh water and coffee were available all day. You’ll need a car for this location, but with one, it’s a cozy place with lovely people.

A good breakfast every morning, and they even packed one for us to take on an early tour. This is a nice family-run hostel, about a 15-minute walk from the center of St Elena. The rooms are simple but clean, and the beds are good. They can also help arrange tours and a taxi into town.

We liked the quiet atmosphere, small garden, and clean kitchen, plus the tasty breakfast included in the price. Coffee and hot or cold water were available all day. There’s a supermarket nearby. It takes about 20 minutes to walk to central Monteverde, which we enjoyed, or you can catch a shuttle on the main road toward the national park. We took the shuttle there and recommend this place.
