I worked remotely and took calls without any trouble thanks to the really strong wi-fi. The hotel also puts on a Thursday social, which was a nice way to meet other solo travelers. The pool is a great size for swimming and was always spotless. Owners and staff were wonderful, helpful with everything, and lovely to chat with. I stayed for a week in January 2026 and had a fabulous time. It's on a side road, so it's quiet, but bars, restaurants, a supermarket, and a gym are all within a five-minute walk.

The location made getting around easy: the beach is about a 10-minute walk away, the grocery store and pharmacy are two minutes away, and shops, restaurants, and bars are an easy stroll. The owners were around with thoughtful suggestions for activities and places to eat, and the staff were always helpful. I loved the spotless rooms, comfortable beds, and air conditioning that worked just right for Costa Rica. The pool area was very clean and relaxing between outings, and having my own balcony or patio made the room feel like a little retreat. Every meal and smoothie I tried was excellent. It was a comfortable, well-run place, and I fully intend to return.

We spent most of our time out and about, using the hotel mainly to sleep and take a quick dip in the pool. The pool was great, and we felt safe. The bed was fantastic, with higher-end-feeling memory foam that suited me perfectly; everything was clean and the AC worked well. Since it was our first time in Tamarindo and we weren't sure what to expect, we chose In the Shade hotel even though we usually stay in AirBNBs. We had a really enjoyable visit. It's a nice place to rest, with great staff and, probably, the best location. One thing to know: the hotel is extremely quiet, more like a library, and definitely not a party spot, which worked perfectly for us. If you're the sort of person who hunts for every tiny flaw with a microscope, a lot of places in Central America may not suit you. Maybe choose a five-star place and pay for that.

We stayed three nights and found the room clean and the place very comfortable. The pool was fantastic, and the welcoming staff were helpful throughout. The town center and sea are both within walking distance, and there's a supermarket right across the street. We really recommend staying here.

The food, accommodations, hosts, and staff were all great, and the location was another big plus. I really enjoyed visiting this fantastic hotel. If you're hoping to experience Tamarindo, I can't recommend it enough.
