Hotel Green Mountain Turrialba

The breakfasts deserve a special mention: delicious, cooked the old-fashioned way, with tasty fruit and real coffee from a local finca. The staff were attentive, and the whole wooden hotel has a second-home kind of feel. It’s all green here, a place to relax in the mountains, but don’t expect a resort. The beds are a bit old and not the best for a good night’s rest, and the showers need maintenance. One tip, try contacting the hotel directly, since they’ll likely offer a good price.

We were there eight years ago, so I can’t speak to how things are now. But if Jessy and his wife still own the place, I’d expect everything to be wonderful.

We checked out several cramped hotels in town near the famous Pan Road trucks before trying the Green Mountain detour. The welcome was lovely, the room was huge, the bedding was good, and the view was superb. It was an old hotel, but certainly not run-down, and we heard nothing but nature. Luckily, we stayed there and nowhere else. Anyone after shiny new bling should head to Bangkok.

The views are nice, since the place is just before the entrance to Turri. Everything else was a bad experience. For 30,000 colones, I expected a hotel, but this is nowhere near one. The rooms are extremely old and dirty, there was no hot water, the restaurant was closed, and the place seemed abandoned with no guests around. There are no signs showing where to enter or park, either. It needs care and much better management. One of the worst stays I've had, and for that price I could have found somewhere far better.
