We only had a day here, which felt far too short. The waterfall was spectacular, and the Sierra Maestra mountains are full of lush, almost paradise-like greenery and huge, beautiful flowers and plants. Getting there after dark was really difficult because of the road.

It may look pretty, but that’s about all it has going for it. The prices are outrageous, the products are poor quality, and water seems to be the only thing available. The service was awful. When I brought the problems to the manager, he just talked about the blockade and switching to a public camping system. He didn’t try to find any other solution, and I was left wondering where the products for customers to enjoy were. The workers do what they can, but their manager is completely useless. I suspect he keeps the resources at home for his own private business, though I can’t say for sure. I wouldn’t give the place a star, and I don’t recommend it.

If you love hiking and are curious about the local flora and fauna, this is an amazing place 😊. Go further into the mountains ⛰️ and explore properly, and you can come across pristine pools or lagoons with very clear water. It’s fairly cold 🥶, but pleasant in summer ☀️.

We stopped at this small, secluded hotel to rest and have lunch. The road at the end is in very bad shape. At last, we got to try some local grilled pork, and it was really, really tasty. I can’t comment on the hotel’s quality.

The musicians at the hotel’s ranch were wonderful people, and some also work as guides and escorts. I got to spend time with them over a beer. I also had the chance to enjoy coffee with local peasants who grow, harvest, and process it themselves. Their trip with my Cuban family was simple and fantastic, and we had a tremendous day. We ate delicious local food, pork, congrí, and other typical dishes, danced, and got caught in a huge tropical storm. Then the sun came back. I was simply very happy that day, and I’d return if I could. The place itself is divine, set in the middle of the Sierra Maestra, with fantastic vegetation, enormous white flowers, and a vivid range of greens, even aggressive ones, I’d say. Coffee plantations surround it.
