This building will always mean home and family to me. It shaped who I became, and some of my happiest childhood memories happened here, back before the new floors, paint, and air conditioning. My school was a block away, and I used to play baseball outside with my father and friends. The third floor apartment, third from the right, was the first and only home I had before leaving Cuba in 2000. We had to leave all our belongings behind so the government could give the apartment to an informant, collaborator, or state employee. I hope whoever lives there now is in good hands and isn't connected to the regime.

We were sorry to say goodbye to Aileen, Jorge, and Ana, who felt like new friends almost right away. The Fortes have such big hearts and are incredibly sweet. We stayed four nights at the Forte's. Jorge and Aileen met us at the airport, then showed us around Havana briefly before taking us to the apartment. Ana made a generous, delicious breakfast each morning, and Aileen helped arrange taxis. The place was clean, cozy, and air-conditioned. My wife even got a little teary when it was time to leave.

The apartment is fully independent, with privacy and amenities that work well for couples or families with children. From its location you can take in a lovely panoramic view of all Havana, and the grand Plaza de la Revolución is only two blocks away. At Forte's House, we want guests to feel like part of the family. We always greet you with our best smile and hope your stay in Cuba helps you see how beautiful the people here are.
