From the second day onward, we stayed at Habana 612, and the location was great. Our courtyard-facing room was quiet, though quite dark and without a proper window. There was a minibar and WiFi in the lobby, and we could buy a SIM card for the state-run phone company at the hotel. Breakfast was okay by Cuban standards: they automatically served a fried egg with bacon, plus cheese and salami. The bread quality varied. The staff were friendly. We had booked four nights. We arrived late, checked into our room, then the receptionist came over to say he'd made a mistake. We had to spend the first night at another hotel that supposedly belonged to the same establishment. The hotel itself was very nice, almost like a suite. We also booked an excursion here to the Vinjales Valley for 170 CUC for two people, without food. It took us to typical tourist stops like a tobacco and coffee farm, and horseback riding through the valley was offered for 20 CUC per person.

We had to switch rooms three times because of different problems. The street-facing rooms are extremely noisy, some rooms have no ventilation apart from the front door, and damp walls give off an unbearable musty smell. Heavy rain stopped the air conditioning from working, and they couldn't get it running again. The shower holder was missing, and maintenance didn't come for three days. The staff were very friendly, but completely ineffective at fixing anything. They sold us an internet card for $4.50, then we found out it was only $1.50.

The staff were friendly, but the breakfast selection was very limited. We were told this was a new hotel, yet it gave us the impression of being 20 years old. It's mid-range, and the poor value for money is why I'd rate it relatively poorly.

Only 12 rooms, right in the middle of the old town's hustle and bustle. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and reception is open 24 hours. At night you have to knock ;-) Breakfast is small but enough for the morning.

Help. It looks like a lot, but it's worthless, dirty, and damp. When it rains, water leaks into both the rooms and breakfast room. Nobody takes final responsibility. 😕
