I was so impressed by Art Studio Havana Vieja 55. I booked through Airbnb without much idea what to expect, and the place turned out to be gorgeous, filled with colourful, interesting art. My room was clean and nicely decorated, with working AC and hot water. The rooftop terrace is a peaceful spot for a drink, with a great view and plenty of greenery. The owner and staff were kind and attentive. The location made it easy to walk to the main Old Havana sights, including The Museum of Fine Arts, the Capitol, el Palacio de Los Capitanes, el Hotel Ambos Mundos, and La Bodeguita del Medio. There are lots of great restaurants nearby too. I’d recommend Iris, Le Petit, Chachachá, and Habana 5. As a woman travelling alone, I also appreciated that both the hotel and the area felt very safe. I’d absolutely recommend staying here if you want a fun trip without spending a fortune.

When we came back to Havana, we were put in room 202 instead of the room 302 we had already paid for. On our first visit, I’d booked one night in a deluxe room through Hostelworld, and it was perfect for my girlfriend and me. We then booked room 302 for two more nights for our return and paid by card at checkout. They said 302 had been given to someone else and insisted we had booked 202. The AC in 202 wasn’t working properly, and when I raised it, the staff member wouldn’t help, so I asked for the manager. That night we had to leave the door open to get some air while watching TV. The receptionist came in, yelled at us, and threatened a fine because other guests could hear us. After talking to the manager the next day, we got the room 302 we’d paid for, and I explained the AC issue. I happen to be an expert in heating and cooling systems, and she understood, though she reluctantly accepted it and notified a technician. My girlfriend and I also woke up with bedbug bites the following day. Alfredo was great and very helpful. The place was clean and fairly close to lots of spots and attractions in Habana vieja, but the WiFi barely worked. Everything else was good.

Right in the middle of Habana Vieja, this is a great place to stay. La Malecon is just minutes away, with lovely ocean views. The staff were friendly and helpful.

The rooftop terrace was a highlight, with wide, beautiful views that were perfect for a sunset mojito. My room was full of art, and this restored boutique hotel brings Cuban character together with modern comforts right in the heart of Havana. The on-site restaurant served tasty Cuban food, and breakfast was something I looked forward to each day. Franky was especially helpful, and the whole staff made me feel welcome with good suggestions for exploring the city. I had an exceptional stay.

For five fabulous weeks, this felt like my Havana family. I’ve never experienced care and comfort like that. The bedrooms were spotless, the food was great, and there was a la ka cart, salsa music, lovely art, and a wonderful rooftop. Such a great experience, I could move in for good.
