The staff were so helpful, even connecting us with a private local guide who made the trip memorable. Breakfast was included at a restaurant just down the block. Our first room had mold in the bathroom, but they moved us right away and the replacement was perfect. We went from a rough start to a very good stay in minutes. Given the age of the hotel and the climate, keeping rooms clean must be hard.

What are people meant to make of a tropical country where people are going hungry and have so little money? Cuba has food-growing conditions, yet people still lack food. They also lack freedom of speech and the freedom to do business, and healthcare may be free but people have so little. Socialism and communism promise nothing, while the government holds the money and dictators live in castles as ordinary people suffer. Nothing belongs to you; it all belongs to Cuba's socialist Communist government.

The building has been beautifully refurbished, and the hotel is in a great location. But the staff were incredibly rude and unhelpful. While we were on our honeymoon, one of the security guards met us on the street and stole money from us. There are much better places in Havana, so avoid this one if you can.

The design is lovely, right in the heart of Havana Old Town (havana vieja). The staff wear monk outfits. I only popped in briefly for a mojito, so I can't confirm what they say about the rooms having no windows. The bartender making the drink was dressed like a monk too. Check my photo if you don't believe me.

The receptionist was helpful, but I didn't enjoy the stay. Our room had no window and smelled damp, and there was no wifi connection.
