The resort is remote and peaceful, and we had no mosquito problem, though we brought bug spray for evenings. It isn’t a party place. The beach was windy and wavy every day, and staff raked up seaweed daily. Plastic washing up from the ocean is a sad global problem. We liked morning walks and drinks at the beach bar, but spent most of our time at the spotless pools, which we loved. We stayed on the Sanctuary side, which was quiet for sleeping. Our room was stocked daily with our preferred drinks, and the maids kept it clean and replenished the soap, towels and toilet paper. The bus ride to and from the airport took 90 minutes; the drive was pleasant, the bus had air conditioning, and the driver and representative were friendly. We were pleasantly surprised by the food. There wasn’t a huge variety, but the cooks prepared the same ingredients in different ways. That week the fruit was apples and pears; vegetables included squash, sweet potatoes, white potatoes and cucumber, with tomatoes and peppers on two days. We liked the buffet cold cuts and cheeses, and the breads were fresh. The omelets at Bites were great, the chef at El Ranchon made excellent pizza, and the woman making tortillas at Flavors was wonderful. We enjoyed all the a la cartes and the Sanctuary special dinner. Morning lattes and pastries at Social in the main lobby were excellent. Our only disappointment was room #1207 in building A. It had no screen, and felt damp and musty, so we couldn’t leave the sliding door open to air it out and enjoy the ocean breeze at night. About half the rooms were missing screens, possibly from hurricane damage. Everything worked, including the air conditioning, fan, TV and hot shower, so we didn’t want to risk changing rooms. For the price, it was a really great resort. Our butlers Raciel and Yosbel were fantastic, kind and attentive. We saw them daily and could reach them easily with questions; they made our stay so enjoyable and deserve five stars.

If you want quiet, comfort and relaxation, this is a lovely choice. My wife especially liked how peaceful it was, with no crowds or waiting. It’s not suited to people looking for nightlife. The Sanctuary at Grand Memories Holguín sits far out in the countryside, and there’s little nearby. The only shopping and dining area is about a five-minute walk away, and the hotel itself has just a small shop with basic items. Bring essentials you’re used to, like snacks, pop and hygiene supplies. The hotel is beautiful, spotless and well cared for. The beach has soft sand and clear water, and while we’re not pool people, the pools were clean and inviting. We had a wonderful week in November. I highly recommend the Premium Package over the standard options. A suite or junior suite makes a real difference to comfort and space, and the package includes a personal butler. Carlos was outstanding, courteous, polite and knowledgeable. Ask for him if you can; he made our stay even better.

Our eight-day stay at Sanctuary Grand Memories Holguin was excellent, with great food, rooms and staff. Yosbel and Raciel arranged all our dinner reservations and organized a lovely beach dinner for us, with exceptional service throughout. My sister had the premium package and her butlers, Orlando and Luis, were ready to help us too. They all went above and beyond to make the trip wonderful. Can’t wait to return!

The pools were spacious and sparkling clean, the food was good, and drinks were cold. It’s about a 90-minute trip from the airport, but once you arrive you’re welcomed by the kindest, hardest-working staff. The hotel is beautiful, and the staff make it even more so. Our butlers Yosbel and Raciel are a dynamic duo who went out of their way to make everything perfect. I can’t say enough good things about them or the rest of the team. We’ve made wonderful friends here.

Our butlers Ramon and Michel turned the trip into something fantastic. We had a few things to sort out when we arrived and ended up needing a room change. That’s when we were assigned Ramon and Michel, who felt more like friends and took wonderful care of us. Ramon moved us to a beautiful ocean-view room, and both were always there when we needed anything. Michel seemed to have spidey senses, showing up wherever we were and checking that everything was okay and that we were having a great evening. They handled dinner reservations, especially for my birthday. Michel arranged balloons, decorations and champagne in the room, while Ramon set up a beautiful birthday dinner. We couldn’t have asked for better. We were also pleasantly surprised by how kind everyone was, how decent the food was and how beautiful the ocean looked. Despite what others may say, I definitely recommend this resort and these butlers. We’ll be back and would ask for Ramon and Michel again. Thank you both, and Grand Memories Sanctuary, for an amazing birthday trip.
