The staff worked hard to make our stay comfortable, and the people were kind and wonderful. The beach along this stretch is probably one of the best around. The room and food could have been better, though. If you want a break from resort meals, Varadero town has some great restaurants and a cab costs about 10-15 USD. Terraazo restaurant was fantastic. We had a lovely time here.

I was glad to get beyond the resort and talk with people about how they’re living. The resilience of people in this country really stayed with me, and I worry that visitors to Cuba may be taking precious food and power away from them. At the resort, the service was phenomenal and the entertainment was excellent. The entertainment team was all inclusive, with a special mention to Dennis and the woman who taught me salsa. Julius Caesar in the buffet area was incredibly friendly and efficient too.

We’ve been to Cuba more than 100 times over 30 years, staying at all sorts of hotels and prices. We were comfortable here for $700, by Cuba standards. Our room was the usual, but perfectly liveable, with no complaints. The beach is gorgeous and the staff are friendly and willing to help with questions or problems. Food at the buffet got repetitive, though they did try to mix it up. There was always meat, fish, pasta, fruit, vegetables, dessert, wine, and beer, and we even had sushi. We’re vegans and managed fine. Nobody goes to Cuba for the food! There was a bit of a staff shortage, with students filling in, so service was occasionally off, but it wasn’t a problem. We’d recommend the hotel and will definitely return to Meila Las Antillas. That was our experience, no complaints. Glenn & Johanne

The bathroom and room at Meliá Las Antillas were in awful shape: an old rusted metal tub, chipped paint, mold, and a generally dirty, poorly maintained feel. I’ve attached photos so others can see the condition. The staff were rude and unhelpful, and wouldn’t even let us use the phone to call another hotel and change our stay. The food was terrible, honestly inedible for a place meant to be 4 stars. We contacted Sunwing, who were amazing and helped us move the next day to Meliá Internacional Varadero. We paid extra for The Level, and it was a completely different experience, clean and beautiful, with great food and friendly staff. We finally got to enjoy our vacation. Big thanks to Sunwing for sorting out the move, but this is how it went for us at the first place. It was old, dirty, and not worth the money or stress. We would never go back.

The beach and pools were clean, there was no garbage, the ocean was warm, and finding a chair was easy. Our balcony had an awesome ocean view, and the spacious, clean bedroom had a super comfortable king bed after we upgraded from two doubles. The AC worked amazingly and there was always power and hot water. Staff were friendly, especially when we tried speaking some Spanish. Food was passable, though outside the resort was way better. I brought my own ketchup and hot sauce, and the omelets were amazing. Shower pressure was awful, and the bathroom and tub could use renovations. I’ve stayed at 5 star resorts in Mexico, and this 4 star place was pretty good. I adjusted my expectations for Cuba since I knew they didn’t have everything Mexico does, including food and power. We paid a good price and I’d stay again. Our room was 4139, my friends were right beside us in 4141. There were no kids, which was nice. You can’t exchange money here, FYI. They like CDN and USD. The store takes only USD, debit Visa, or credit card.
