Torre Sabina

The main reason to come to Torre Sabina is its wonderfully secluded setting. We spent a week there in April 2024, surrounded by the warm indigo and turquoise ocean, white dunes, and fishing boats bobbing far out on the waves. It really felt like an oasis away from everything, and we’re already planning to return in December. There are two cozy, simple bungalows: the roomy “Chapel” and the unusual Moorish-style Torre, built over three levels with a winding staircase and small turret windows. The mattresses are firm and comfortable, the bathrooms are a good size and worked well, and a starry sky or the colors of the Atlantic are visible through the tower windows, depending on the time of day. Isidora, a lovely local woman, cleaned the bungalows thoroughly every day. We also loved the meals prepared by Ms. Elida. She trained professionally and worked at large hotels on Sal, and clearly puts her heart into breakfast and dinner. We ate fresh local fish, grilled or baked, with simple, tasty vegetables and rice or potatoes, followed by a dessert with plenty of flavor. Meals were served on the beach-facing patio at sunset, among the palms, with the Oriental-style post lamps casting a soft light as evening cooled. There was a selection of local wines from Fogo, too. We especially recommend the dry white Cha. For relaxing and switching off, it’s hard to beat the place. There are also books in several European languages in both bungalows, and Ms. Sabina speaks English, Portuguese, Kriol, German, and French. Her son Walter, who was temporarily helping with management and is an expert in travel bookings, speaks English, German, Portuguese, and Kriol. It’s a good place to brush up on languages. The host was wonderful and ready to help. Maio is such a quiet island, and this is just the right spot to relax by the beach.

Sabina and Walter are warm, dedicated hosts, and the food was a real highlight, with fantastic breakfast and dinner. The accommodation is inspired by the Greek islands and Hundertwasser. For me, this is the best place in Cape Verde, absolutely top-notch.
