Casa Café Mindelo

That fish was world-class, perfectly done and the best I had during two weeks on the island. I wasn't staying at the hotel, just eating at the restaurant. Updated: It's now officially my favorite restaurant in Mindelo. I think I've been at least 20 times in five weeks, though I lost count 😂. I've added a photo of the delicious shrimp omelet. Update May 7th: Still my favorite. I've probably visited more than 50 times now, and added another photo.

The day staff are top tier and really listen, so I'd highly recommend coming for lunch. The night staff, though, were passive aggressive. I ordered red wine with my meal, but was brought rum instead. I asked the server to bring the wine, which never happened, and I was charged for the rum anyway. I enjoyed this place, but servers shouldn't decide what someone orders. I know the restaurant industry from working at several Michelin and fine dining restaurants throughout the U.S. Getting an order wrong could also be dangerous for someone with allergies. They had no honey for people with celiac disease. Do better. You've lost a repeat customer.

I've been eating here most nights because the food is just that good, everything is prepared perfectly. The sautéed welks and sesame-crusted seared tuna are two favorites of mine. The girls even bring me a beer as soon as I come in!

The staff were the highlight of our stay at Casa Café Mindelo, always so friendly and helpful. The food was amazing for both quality and value, and they kindly made breakfast early for us before we left. Our room was decent, spacious and had air conditioning. Music made it a little noisy, though we didn't mind. The bathroom could use some updating. We had a pleasant stay thanks to the hospitality and food, and a few bathroom upgrades would make it perfect.
