Susu, the owner, was great, as were chef Miriam and the cleaning lady. The location is great too. Sadly, the rest of the staff were below par with their service, spending too much time chatting and not enough getting things done.

We only stayed one night, and it was perfect. It’s close to the center, and the pier is less than a 10-minute walk away.

The atmosphere was really pleasant, and I enjoyed my evening there. The drink prices seemed normal even with live music. The food wasn’t anything special, and service was slow, with some servers seeming incompetent, but I still had a pretty good time.

The staff were wonderful, and the rooms were nice. You’re right in the heart of the city, close to everything you need. If you enjoy a lively scene, it’s a great spot, especially during Carnival or other musical celebrations in Mindelo, when they’ll be right outside your door.

The live music was nice, and it was the only reason I’d give this place a star. We went to Royal on a Monday night when it wasn’t even a third full, yet our main courses took literally 2,5 hours to arrive. The kitchen had already forgotten the starters, even after we asked about them. Both the filet mignon ($1.400!) and the shashlik were badly overcooked and tasted like old rubber. We told the owner we were unhappy, but they didn’t seem to care. Definitely wouldn’t recommend eating here.
