Simabo's Backpackers' Hostel

The hostel’s profits all go toward the island’s animal shelter, and the staff are really friendly. I stayed at Simabo's hostel for a couple of nights last week and had also been here a year ago. There’s a spacious kitchen for cooking and meeting other guests, plus a rooftop terrace where you can enjoy a drink and look across Mindelo. It’s close to the beach, restaurants, the ferry port, and grocery stores. I’d recommend staying here and hope to come back.

I’ve been to this lovely hostel in Mindelo twice and would gladly return. There’s a homey feel, with a shared kitchen and living room, and a good choice of private rooms and dorms. The people working there are kind and always willing to help. Best of all, the profits support their animal shelter. You can adopt an animal, and friends of mine who did are very happy with it. I can’t recommend the hostel enough.

The owner is extremely friendly, and it’s lovely meeting nice people at the hostel. It’s decent value, though noise can be an issue since it’s a hostel, especially around the kitchen or on weekends. The showers only have cold water, but the wifi works well. Staying here helps street animals across the island, so it’s a good option for sustainable travel. The hostel has cats, which is great if you’re a cat person. To see the rescue dogs, you’d need to visit the shelter.

The hostel is cozy and clean, with friendly staff and everything you need, including a big kitchen, living room, and roof terrace. It’s also full of kind-hearted people. What a beautiful initiative, and I applaud everyone who gives their time to help the animals.
