The laundry service was ridiculous!!!!!!!!! At night, there was barely any lighting on the way to the apartment, and most employees spoke only French or Portuguese, which made things difficult for me. The setting was probably the biggest letdown: the surrounding construction site felt desolate, and there was no beach view from the shared terrace. On arrival, though, the receptionist was helpful and suggested where to find the main attractions.

The accessible beach is one small consolation, but construction around Casa Velha and across Sal Rai makes the area noisy and gives it a busy atmosphere. In winter 2025, the complex seemed to be made up of apartments rented out by different owners, though Casa Velha looked like it may have been a resort a few years earlier. The place is generally poorly maintained, and the apartments I could see were in different states of repair.

The houses are okay, but the rooms are damp and musty, with poor lighting and no sunlight coming in. There’s no air conditioning either. 🤷

WiFi only works at reception, and there’s a night guard. The apartment itself was clean, had plenty of dishes, and came with a lovely terrace. Staff were attentive, and it was good value for money. The location isn’t especially pretty, though it is convenient and very quiet, much like the rest of the island.

The top-floor apartment with the big roof terrace was clean and tidy. The staff were friendly and accommodating, and we had a very pleasant, relaxing holiday.
