Meliã¡ Dunas Beach Resort & Spa

The food had a good variety and was consistently enjoyable, and the pools were excellent, clean and well maintained. I enjoyed many things about Melia Dunas, but one experience made me uncomfortable and negatively affected my stay. A staff member named Junior/Badjon contacted me while working and sent personal messages asking to sleep with me. I felt this was inappropriate behaviour for a staff member interacting with a guest. I hope management takes guest professionalism seriously and addresses concerns like this appropriately.

We really recommend this resort and look forward to coming back next year. There's lots of space, huge pools and a gorgeous beach. The restaurant had a very wide choice at breakfast, lunch and dinner. Our rooms were cleaned every day, and towels were changed whenever we asked. A special thank you to Leyla from the public relations and Julia from Level breakfast restaurant. They made our holiday truly memorable.

The Christmas dinner was great, and the food in general was incredible. We had a bit of confusion about which restaurant was the main buffet, but worked it out eventually. The room was clean, and when the shower water wasn't warm at first, staff sorted it within 20 minutes. It's a huge hotel with loads of pools and a beautiful beach right beside it. Fantastic stay.

The evening shows showed some effort from the entertainment team, even if they felt amateur and lacked polish. That was one of the few bright spots in a stay that was extremely disappointing. Melia Dunas in Cape Verde felt like a 2-star hotel at best, far below the standard it claims to offer. The property looks tired and neglected, with worn or broken facilities, uneven cleanliness, and a general need for major maintenance. It didn’t feel like the relaxing premium resort advertised at all. The children’s pool was especially concerning. Damaged and missing tiles left sharp edges exposed, and several children in our group got cuts while using it. This is a serious safety hazard at a family resort, and it seems to have been left unresolved for some time. Service made the problems harder to deal with. Housekeeping was unreliable: rooms were sometimes not properly cleaned or lacked basic items, and on some occasions we had no face or bath towels to shower after the beach. When we raised this and the pool safety issue, management responded slowly and dismissively. Requests often took too long or weren’t fulfilled, communication between departments seemed poor, and there was little urgency or accountability. It added stress to a holiday that should have been enjoyable. For a hotel presenting itself as high-end, the gap between expectation and reality is enormous. With the poor upkeep, management, safety, and basic service standards, I wouldn’t recommend it, especially for families. Take your hard-earned money elsewhere until major improvements are made.
