Papagayo Beach Hotel

We had such a good time at Papagayo Beach Club. The place looked beautiful, the food and drinks were great, and the staff made us feel welcome. Everything felt well organized, with a lovely atmosphere for relaxing by the beach with friends or family. We’d happily come back. 🌴✨💙

The setting is stunning and the resort has loads of potential, but the standard and service didn’t come close to justifying the price. Even a nice beachfront pool can’t make up for the problems we had. Our room had tons of cockroaches, so we had to move, and nobody even apologized. The rooms are worn and need fresh paint, new flooring, and wallpaper. The rain shower was almost impossible to set to a comfortable temperature, and the pool often wasn’t cleaned enough, leaving guests to pick leaves out themselves. Staff interactions often felt halfway done because people seemed short on experience. Security at the gate was poor too. I only remember a few occasions when anyone raised their head to check who was driving into the supposedly gated resort. The resort peaked long before 2015, in my view. Don’t stay here if you’re looking for peace of mind. Hopefully they sort out this nightmare for future guests.

We had one of the best holidays we’ve ever taken, celebrating our son’s birthday and the end of summer at Papagayo Beach Resort. We chose it more than four weeks ago, and the OV villa turned out spacious, bright, and comfortable, even better than we’d hoped. Landiz, Hector, Cindy, and the rest of the warm Front Office team greeted us by name and seemed to anticipate what we needed. The birthday decorations I ordered were exactly as I’d pictured them. The staff were so friendly and helpful that we never felt short of anything. Don’t miss meals at the Beach Club and Zest, they were delightful. We’re already planning our next visit. Thank you for making the stay so memorable!

The resort is well laid out, with parking on site. Its large villas are scattered around the grounds, a short walk from the Jan Thiel beaches. Ours had air-conditioned bedrooms, plus a roomy living and kitchen area that opens onto a big balcony. There’s a small pool and a kids’ play area, though not many activities.
