Casa Amalia

The neighborhood is quiet, and relaxing by the pool I saw parrots and other birds flying around. An iguana even wandered past early one morning. Jan Thiel beach is walkable, though I'd recommend having a car to explore more of the island. Casa Amalia has a dipping pool with sunbeds, a garden full of palms, plants and lovely sculptures, and a spot at the back to hang towels and swimsuits. There's also a little seating area by the pool where you can use the kettle. I stayed in a hotel room, which was big enough, with working air conditioning, large wooden furniture, a great comfortable bed and a nice bathroom with a good shower. The cleaning lady looked after it every other day, so it was lovely to return to fresh sheets, towels and a clean room. It all felt easy and relaxed, almost like staying with family. Casa Amalia is a beautiful villa with an artsy atmosphere.

You're staying in an artist's very comfortable home, so calling it a hotel doesn't quite capture the experience. Read the description on the website before you go, and you'll enjoy the stay even more. It's adults only, with a hospitable host. The rooms work well if you just need a place to sleep, but I'd recommend the excellent apartments if you want your own space to cook. A wonderful place, and I can't recommend it enough.

The owner is so kind and helpful, and I'll definitely come back often. The beautiful statues give the hotel a distinctive feel. It has a high-end atmosphere while still being casual, a perfect mix.
