Kapetanios Odysseia Hotel

Conveniently placed for nearby restaurants, shops, and public transport, and the hotel has some nice facilities too. Staff were helpful and polite, with smooth, well-organised check-in and check-out. My room was spacious, clean, and comfortable, and housekeeping did a good job. The bed was comfortable as well. A solid four-star stay with more going for it than against it. I’d return, especially for a short visit or business trip, and can recommend it.

The lifeguard kept insisting I was responsible for my child, then wouldn’t let her into the pool at all. I was told I had to get in at the same time as my six-year-old, even though she knows how to swim. It’s one thing to watch over her, another to have to enter the water with her. I even wonder whether the lifeguard herself can swim. I’ve never come across such a ridiculous hotel rule before. The policy needs revising.

I stayed in the same room for several weeks while relocating for work. My company arranged it, and the booking was extended more than once, so I never actually checked out. I used laundry service twice. When the first booking period ended, nobody asked me to pay, so I assumed the bill would be settled when the continuous stay was over. Then on Sunday, reception called and asked me to come down because a new stay period was starting in their system and they wanted the laundry bill paid. The call was polite, and I went to clarify. But when I asked why nobody had mentioned payment at the end of the previous period, I was told I “should have known” it was due earlier. I was just trying to understand how I could know about an internal process, and the receptionist was dismissive, telling me not to be nervous. That made a simple question feel tense and unhelpful. There were other uncomfortable moments too. Once, my laundry was left in the room and not collected. I was asked to leave it out again the next morning. Since I didn’t want to be woken early, I put up a “Do Not Disturb” sign so staff could collect it while I was out. At about 7:45 they knocked, then came into the room when I didn’t answer, despite the sign. It felt intrusive and unnecessary. At check-in I spoke in English, but the receptionist switched to Russian without asking which language I preferred. That felt odd. From my perspective, the stay looked continuous, and the hotel hadn’t requested payment when the earlier period ended. Being suddenly asked to urgently sort out an unexplained internal issue was stressful. The hotel itself is nice, but these situations were handled poorly. I hope communication and staff approach improve so guests don’t have to deal with this.

The location was convenient, and one staff member was kind enough to leave her own cream at reception for me to use each day for an insect bite I got at the hotel. That was a lovely gesture. I gave one star for her and one for the location. The room was noisy, and the so-called family suite was really just a larger room with a sofa bed, with barely enough room to move. The balcony had decent space, but the balconies were open to one another, so there was no privacy. Nearby families were loud, and kids kept peeking into our room. At night we could hear screaming and doors slamming through the connecting door, making it hard to sleep. Some staff seemed nice but stressed and burned out. Others argued with guests almost every day. I don’t know what the guests’ issues were, but it was unpleasant to watch, and the constant reception arguments made it hard to ask for help. The hotel isn’t overlooking the sea either, and the walk to the beach is quite a distance.
