6/10
The staff were willing to help us switch rooms, which I appreciated. The breakfast room on the ground floor was pleasant, with large windows and plenty of natural light. Breakfast was average to good, though nothing special, and the juices were boxed ones from a machine, with no fresh juice. The city centre location makes it convenient for getting around Nicosia. The rooms, though, were quite average. I had to change rooms twice, and the third wasn’t much better. The hotel felt worn out and clearly needs refurbishment. It’s hard to see why it has a 4-star rating, since it doesn’t really feel like a four-star property. The location and helpful staff are good, but the facilities and rooms feel dated and fall short of that standard.

The location is right in the city center, and the staff are kind. Breakfast has a good range of choices and tastes good, though it stays the same each day. The design is unusual, with oversized furniture that doesn’t work well and an odd mirror and hairdryer setup. The safe in my room didn’t work. Don’t miss the fortune telling messages at reception.

The breakfast was a letdown, with tasteless food and a machine that gave me Nescafé when I pressed espresso. The tub wouldn’t fill, and the pool was closed. The gym only opens 30 minutes after checkout, which was no help. Doors all slam shut loudly, so don’t expect to sleep past 6 a.m.

The pool schedule was the biggest drawback: it only runs from 10:00 to 18:00, right in the middle of the July heat, which was 43°C when we visited. That makes it hard to enjoy, and the timing isn’t useful for business travelers. The bed wasn’t especially comfortable either, and the room doors slam loudly enough to disturb you at night. Still, the staff were very friendly, the place was clean, and breakfast was very good. A decent 4-star stay with some things to fix.

I was glad I tried the pool, and the service was excellent. Weekdays are much better, though, since weekends get crowded with kids playing with balls. The food looks very nicely presented, but the taste needs work.
