Hostel Eleven

The location and the fact that it was the cheapest offer in Brno were the only real positives. I spent two nights in an eight-bed dorm and didn't get a good night's sleep either night. Some wooden slats supporting the mattresses were broken, and after the first night in the bottom bunk, a broken slat from the upper bed was hanging right over me. I asked reception to fix it. They acted as if this happened all the time and didn't seem to care much. When I got back, they'd repaired it, but left the splinters on my bed. I was exhausted after two nights. I'm not coming back.

The room was quiet and comfortable, and shops and the city center are easy to reach on foot. Tram stops are close by, just one corner away. It also offers good value, so I'd recommend it for budget trips with family or friends.

The helpful, kind staff and great location were the bright spots, though it was noisy and cleanliness was only average. The privacy problems, though, aren't the staff's fault. My double room had no curtains and looked straight onto an office building just a few metres away, so people could see in. I had to crouch to change clothes. Opening the door put you right into the kitchen, with its noise and smells, and that's probably built into the layout. Some bathroom doors didn't lock, and any key opened any shower, which felt very unsafe and left no privacy. There was nowhere to store luggage either, just bags left outside reception. Since reception doesn't open until 9 a.m., early arrivals are stuck outside with their bags.

Our room was cozy and clean, with a double bed and private bathroom, and towels and shower gel were provided. We made breakfast in the shared kitchen, which was neat and stocked with what we needed for meals, including spices, oil, tea, coffee and water. The hostel is right in the center of Brno, so you can feel the city's atmosphere from the room, but the street noise was rough. It was noisy outside around midnight, and at 5 or 6 in the morning people under our window, probably homeless, were shouting, drinking, smoking and vomiting 😂😂😂 Getting there was well explained through Booking, including parking suggestions. Domini Parking is closest to Hostel Eleven, but it charges by the hour and doesn't allow stays of a day or more. A staff member then suggested JD Parking, about a 10-minute walk away, which was much cheaper for a full day or longer. A friendly young man checked us in, explained things and showed us the room, which was a 3-4 minute walk from reception. He closed reception to take us there, so guests who arrived to check in had to wait outside with their bags for about 10 minutes.
