Old Town Apartment Spilberk II

The apartment is cozy and quite nice, and being on the top floor has its appeal. The bathroom works fine, though it feels a little dated. There’s no German TV, but YouTube is an option. Parking was the real headache, and an overnight stay could easily cost €30.

The X4 bus makes this attic apartment easy to get to, and the place itself is fine. But we spent the stay cold and uncomfortable because the heating problem never got sorted out. We reported it and were told twice that someone would come. Turning on a tap did make the radiators heat up, but water was leaking from the boiler, so we figured that was why it hadn’t been repaired. A stay shouldn’t leave you feeling like that.

The apartment looks lovely in the Booking photos, and it does have a pleasant design, plenty of space, two bedrooms, comfortable beds and clean linen. The location is good too. But the reality fell short, and the way problems were handled made the stay frustrating. Getting up to the top floor with suitcases is a pain since there’s no elevator. Once inside, we found crumbs and bits of rubbish on the floor, along with various signs that the apartment could use better upkeep. The heating didn’t work even with the radiator controls set to 5. There was an electric heater in a cupboard, apparently the only heat available. Hot water was only warm and ran out after my wife showered. It still hadn’t returned by morning, so I ended up with an icy shower. The fridge wasn’t working either. After a while we pulled it out and saw it wasn’t plugged in. When I mentioned it, the receptionist replied, “well, stick the plug in the socket,” without apologizing. I didn’t bother calling about the heating or water after that. Messages to reception took a long time to get answered, and they couldn’t give a clear answer about whether parking on the next street was paid or free. There were also issues with the TV instructions. They don’t say you need to select the HDMI input as the signal source on the remote. The apartment has a lot of drawbacks, and customer service could be better. I gave it a three because of the location and its past merits.

Communication was difficult, and even a basic kitchen item, a carving knife, was missing. There was a smell of cat urine too. Poor...
