Penzion Stará Vápenka

We only came for dinner, not an overnight stay. I had the nicely seasoned trout, and they raise most, maybe all, of the food they serve. Even the honey comes from their own bees. The dining room has glass on three sides and looks out over a big pond with rustic rocks and a little waterfall. In the second week of May, the children were fascinated by thousands of tiny black tadpoles, scooping them up to watch. We also walked around the ekofarma, though I wish we’d had a chance to learn more about it.

The place is beautiful, but the service was awful. We waited half an hour and had to keep trying to get the waiter to take our order. Then we were told the food was only for hotel guests. The waiter was rude to other guests in the same situation too. The drive wasn’t worth it.

A lovely spot for a family holiday or a quiet break in nature, with a modern new house, friendly staff, and exquisite food. It’s in the middle of nowhere, which might be part of the appeal.

The view was beautiful, the rooms were clean, and the people were nice. We had good food too, and the whole stay felt like being at home. Had a really good time here!
