Hotel ROYAL

The location is central, easy to get around on foot, and the view is nice. The hotel itself feels old and poorly maintained. The corridor lights didn’t work, so I had to use my phone flashlight to reach my room. I stayed four nights, and nobody cleaned the room during that time. There was no kettle, hair dryer, or similar room amenity either. Breakfast starts at 7:00, but by 7:30 many items were gone and hadn’t been replenished. On my last night, my room card stopped working. Staff said they had blocked it because I was checking out the next day and they wanted to avoid possible unpaid charges, even though I’d already paid in advance. It took three hours to fix. The entrance door is locked after 10 p.m. and needs a code, but they don’t give you the code in advance. We were a large group, and luckily one person had written it on their room card earlier. Otherwise, we’d have been locked out.

There was nothing luxurious about this hotel despite the name Royal. The beds squeaked, and the sheets had odd stains. There was no hot water in the shower, day or night. Breakfast was disappointing too. The food looked as if it had been sitting out for a week, while two staff members basically shouted to each other about their hair appointments. Fruit was the only safe choice.

Our usual hotel was fully booked, so we ended up at Hotel Royal. The rooms were surprisingly clean, spacious, and comfortable after some of the online reviews we’d read. It’s a good location and good value, and staying with a dog was no problem for a really small extra fee. Communication with the receptionist was very difficult, even though we spoke Czech, and the staff were unfriendly. We gladly skipped the 0/10 breakfast and went to a nearby coffee place instead. Our room facing the market square was noisy on a weekend night. Fine for a short stay.

Ivanka, who I think is the manager, was lovely. She baked fresh pastries that were delicious and made us feel at home, and the staff were exceptionally friendly and accommodating. The service and location were five-star for me, even though this isn’t really a five-star type of hotel. It sits in an adorable cobblestone town center, with indoor dining and an outdoor patio, plus a full bar and generous servings of ice. There’s no room service. Our room was rather large, with lots of clothing storage, but the bathroom was small and we couldn’t find air conditioning. It’s a cute countryside hotel outside Most, where the racetrack is.
