Penzion u Bednářů

This was a really bad experience. I booked a room at the main pension on Booking.com, but when I arrived, a woman at reception couldn’t speak English and asked whether I spoke German. She said she didn’t understand a word of English. Then a man took me to a room at another pension 100 meters away. It was small, with no dresser, chair, or desk like the photos showed. There were no services there either, so I’d have had to walk back to the original place for breakfast or to sit on the deck. The restaurant looked extremely slow, with a dozen tables waiting for food. I struggled to cancel the booking and had to drive to Vienna to find another room. Even after they’d taken me to the other pension, they were still advertising a room at the main pension as available on Booking.com. It felt like a bait and switch, and it seems they do this all the time.

The area is lovely, with a castle above and a lake below, and it makes a good stop along the way. The place isn’t especially fancy, but the rooms are comfortable and clean. Good beer and breakfasts, too, and the service was nice.

The wine selection was very good, the accommodation was nice, and the service was great.

The location is perfect, right next to Ilias winery. It’s a really nice community, too. Ask the owners or anyone in town for advice and they’ll be happy to help. I had a lovely stay, with extremely nice, accommodating owners. My room was laid out almost like a small apartment, which was a nice change after a week in small hotel rooms. I also liked the big breakfast room, and breakfast was very nice each morning.
