Pension Katka Harrachov

There were no dinners, and I don't know why they were cancelled. The owner was trying to do everything himself, from cleaning and managing the place to breakfast and being the owner. No more food was available. He was on his own with it all. The furniture being old doesn't bother me, as long as it's clean and works. It was peaceful, almost as if everyone had disappeared, and if the price had been discounted to reflect the conditions, I could have recommended the place. But there was no hand shower or small table with the chairs. If you wanted to play a game or have a drink, you had to use the side of the dresser or sit on the bed, and that really hurt my back.

It was the worst experience of 2017. My wife and I spent our stay worrying instead of resting, for no good reason. When we arrived, I tightened the loose door handles in our room and in the hallway by the stairs. They were loose on every door and kept falling off. We barely slept because another guest's small but very noisy Yorkshire barked in the hallway. In the morning, I went to the toilet and found another tenant there. After speaking with the pension staff, we decided to move to another place. I've attached a photo of our room's bathroom so you can judge for yourself whether you'd want to spend a second night in that apartment.

The pension is fairly close to the ski slope, which was handy. But we wouldn't recommend staying here and would return to Harrachov only to stay somewhere else. The soups were delicious, though the other food was basic and made with cheap, poor-quality ingredients. Dinner wasn't served until 7:00 PM, too late for us with a child. The room was small, the older equipment included some broken items, and there wasn't even a table and chair for writing or drawing. When we arrived, there was just one roll of toilet paper and a little soap left at the bottom of the dispenser. Since check-in starts at 4:00 PM, I expected those to be replenished. All inclusive sounds like a great idea, but the cheapest juices and lemonades were served, so we didn't use it. There's no drinks menu, and the only choices were one kind of beer and one kind of wine.

We enjoyed Czech food here, with soup and a main course at dinner, plus cask wine or beer included. The meals were very good, and the service was great. The owner was kind and helpful too. Our room and bathroom had been renovated, and both were large and spacious. The accommodation felt cozy, and the location was ideal, just a short distance from the cable car. There's a lot to see in Harrachov and the surrounding Liberec region, so we enjoyed wandering around. We'd definitely recommend the pension and plan to come back.
