Boutique Spa Hotel Aqua Marina

We had a good experience overall. There was an odd sound coming from another room, though, and it was so disturbing that we couldn’t sleep at 2am. Luckily, a friendly employee was available then and moved us to a different room for the night. The room cards or door lock seemed a bit broken, but it worked after several tries. The rooms were clean and had what we needed, and the beautiful in-house spa is a must. The entrance is stunning too. The hotel is near the river in a very central spot, handy for shopping, dining, or a relaxed walk.

The room was excellent and well soundproofed, though the TV could do with an upgrade. The food was edible but didn’t meet our expectations for a hotel of this standard. At dinner, communicating in Czech was difficult even though we were in Karlovy Vary, and the server didn’t seem to try very hard. It was also hard to communicate at reception. The pool was clean, and the sauna facilities were good, but the steam room was small, comfortable for only two people. I enjoyed the beer bath, though 20 minutes felt too short for such a unique experience. The staff member overseeing it was extremely arrogant and unpleasant, which spoiled it. The massage from another hotel staff member was pleasant.

My impression of the hotel was badly affected by reception, especially Natalia. She seemed to have real difficulty communicating in foreign languages, which caused serious inconvenience for guests. I hope management takes notice and improves the service.

The spa wasn’t in good shape: one sauna was broken and the water was cold. Parking was listed as 10€ on booking, but they charged 20€ per day if you wanted a space. The photos show how little cleaning gets done. Tables, ashtrays, and everything else were dirty, and there was a huge spider web inside the room. Breakfast was a zero for me, with no variety or quality, and they didn’t care when something ran out. I’ve had better breakfasts at bed and breakfasts. The room was horrible too, with a very small, uncomfortable shower that’s impossible to use if you’re tall, and an uncomfortable bed. This is a two-star hotel at best. A bad experience, and I’d never come back.
