Hotel Petr

The view from our clean room was excellent, looking across at a beautiful building. There were dead flies and durt between the windows, though. Breakfast was okay, nothing special, and free parking meant a 15-20 minute walk uphill. For a short visit, it’s an okay place to stay, with a very good location.

You can walk to plenty of views, dining, shopping, and nightlife from Hotel petr, right in the heart of the city across from the colonnade. It’s great value for the price, and breakfast is available. A couple of things to know: although parking is advertised, the garage has exactly two spaces. I parked about 800 meters away, with 400 meters of that route on a very steep hill. There’s an elevator, but also random steps, including four up to my room, and a full flight to the restaurant and breakfast room. If you’re travelling with someone with limited mobility, be aware.

The location is hard to beat, right in the heart of Karlovy Vary and close to everything. Staff were very helpful and forthcoming. The hotel has a restaurant, ground-floor shops, an elevator, paid parking, a fridge, shower, bath tub, and a beautiful view. The rooms are clean and cosy, but really, really old. They could use nicer rooms for five stars. There’s no A/C, and street noise carries inside. Summer might be the best time to visit, but with no A/C you have to open the windows, which makes sleeping hard. Ear plugs may help, and removing the blanket from the covers can ease the heat. I’d renew the room furniture, including the bathroom, while keeping the original charm. We enjoyed our stay and would come back, probably at another time of year.

We stayed in a huge, comfortable six-bed apartment on the first floor, with a large bathroom and a nice view. The hotel sits in the middle of the most beautiful part of Karlovy Vary. The street could be a little noisy during the day, but it was very quiet after 22:00-22:30, and breakfast was good. You can drive up to the hotel for check-in or check-out, and we briefly parked in front while checking in. The area is otherwise closed to cars. There’s a public car park with about 300 spaces 200m away at the Thermal Hotel, the biggest ugly building around, for 10EUR/day. The hotel also has a garage, but its door opener was broken when we arrived, so I had to park farther away. That turned out fine, since the public car park had more room. One air conditioner wasn’t really working and didn’t blow cold air. The building is about 400 years old, and the apartment’s wooden floor creaked loudly with every step. We had no warm water on the morning we left, around 06:20. The breakfast room is a bit small and food refills were a little slow. Despite all that, I’d stay here again :)
