Wellness Resort Bouda Malá Úpa

I tried to get this right in my own kitchen a week later, even though I hardly ever cook, and did a better job than your “professional” chef. The mushroom “risotto” was mediocre, with undercooked, ultra-cheap long-grain rice. Please use arborio rice. It’s a simple dish, but it takes time to get right, and at your prices this was really disappointing.

There’s good dining here, too, including gluten-free fried cheese, which is the only place I’ve ever seen serve it. Bouda Malá Úpa has a lot in one spot: an indoor pool, wellness, nearby ski lifts, and even an ice rink. It’s one of the best hotels and restaurants in this beautiful part of the Giant Mountains (Krkonoše). They used to have Urquell on tap, but recently switched to regional Krakonoš 12° and splendid Trautenberk 11°. Why not :-)

The skiing area is good, but the stay was a huge disappointment after a promising first impression. We paid 84€/night for a two-person room, the same price as a 4-star place, and were promised a special end-of-year menu and a bottle of champagne. None of those things were there. The buffet was awful and cramped, drinks were expensive, and there was nothing else for the end of the year. The spa was just as bad. They didn’t clean the room, and the staff were unpleasant. This felt like false advertising.

The soup was tasteless, and the mashed potatoes looked and tasted instant. The prices are the same as Pivovar Trautenberk next door, but the food quality is worse. Go to Trautenberk instead, you’ll be glad you did.
