Penzion a restaurace U Pidly

A nice place to eat, though it gets a bit noisy if you’re staying there.

The food was good, but a rude waitress handling our payment spoiled the visit. At the start, we asked whether card payment was possible and were told it was. When we later asked for the bill and I said I wanted to pay by card, she claimed it wasn’t possible because I should have declared that when asking to pay, even though nobody had asked whether we wanted to use card or cash. Luckily, we had some euros. The bill was 22 EUR and I had 30. Then the same waitress asked how much change I wanted, which felt like she was insisting on a tip. Very rude and unprofessional, to be honest. Would I still try the food? Yes, but pay attention and be ready for “surprises” from the staff.

We stopped in for a quick lunch. The service was very friendly and the prices were fair. We had fish soup, pickled sausage and Forelle filet, all simple, fresh and tasty, with nothing to complain about. For a fish restaurant, though, I would have liked a wider choice of fish.

We paid 300 CZK for a meal that was just a few fries and something called fish croquettes. It was terrible, and the other food wasn’t good either. This was our first and last restaurant in the city centre of Mariánské lázně. Even in Prague city center or high up in the Krkonoše mountains, I haven’t seen such a crazy mix of bad food and high prices. What a shame. :‑(
