Villa Meteor

We had a booking from May 30th to June 1st, 2025, and Booking.com said there would be a surcharge for arriving late. The host ignored that completely. We planned to arrive at 5:00 PM but got there around 8:15 PM. I’d been in regular contact, yet got no reply. A serious traffic accident shut the road and left us with no other route into the Czech Republic, turning what should have been a 5.5-hour trip into 9 hours. The room was still available and the host was there when we arrived, but despite our booking confirmation, we were refused and rudely sent away. We then spent another two hours trying to find somewhere to stay, but everything was booked. Even though the room we’d booked was free, we had to drive back exhausted. Sleeping in the car wasn’t possible, and the situation felt absolutely inhumane and dangerous. I’m still very disappointed. We just wanted a bit of time to relax, but there was no understanding at all. At the very least, the travel costs should have been reimbursed. I can’t recommend this accommodation. They shouldn’t be able to just turn people away and consider themselves free of responsibility. This is unacceptable.

We were walking past Hamelika with friends, and the café looked lovely from the outside. I imagine it’s nice inside too. I needed a break, but there was no sign showing the opening hours anywhere. I went through the outdoor seating to check the entrance, saw it was closed, and started back on the road. Then a woman called to me from a parked car without saying hello. I greeted her and explained that I hadn’t seen the hours and needed to step away. Before I could finish saying that our whole group might get coffee or buy drinks for the trip, she snapped, “WE ARE A CAFÉ, NOT A PUBLIC TOILET.” I told her honestly that I’d planned to buy something, that I wasn’t rude, and that we’d find another café. I don’t know why she assumed I only wanted a public toilet, or why she treated us like a bunch of scumbags with no money for coffee. Since she’s so sure of her ways, we won’t be coming back anytime soon.

It’s a lovely quiet place to relax, surrounded by nature. Boheminium park is nearby, with Obůrka Hvozd deer park on the other side, and Hamelika lookout tower is also close. The owner is friendly and very helpful, offering city maps and guides and happy to suggest places to go. There’s a café in the guesthouse. In the very hot weather we resisted the famous cakes, but couldn’t say no to the excellent fruit lemonade. We didn’t have breakfast. Parking right in front is included in the price. Getting there is very difficult without a car. We stayed for just one night, two adults, and only used the room to sleep after a busy day, so we noticed a few shortcomings but didn’t deal with them. There’s a water shortage at the guesthouse, mentioned on a sign in the tiny shower, where an adult can barely fit. The toilet is tiny too, and its door won’t close. The room is small, as is the TV, though we didn’t have time to turn it on. A refrigerator would be useful, and women might appreciate a hairdryer. We got towels but no bath towels. Wi-Fi is available, but often drops out. Payment is cash only, no cards. If I were the owner, I’d consider combining two rooms into one spacious room with a large bathroom.

Dogs are welcome, which was great. We enjoyed the lovely sunny terrace and excellent coffee, and I’d recommend it.
