Hotel Nikolas

A tram stop right outside makes it easy to get to Dolni Vitkovice or the city center. If you don't feel like walking the 1.5 km from Stodolni, you won't have to wait long for a tram to the hotel. My room was large, the bathroom was well designed, and the bed was comfortable. There was just one chair in the two-bed room, but that was fine for me. Breakfast was basic but okay, enough to start the day well. Great value, and I'd definitely recommend it.

The younger staff member was very nice and easy to deal with, and he arranged a spa for us. If he'd handled things from the start, this review might have been different. Instead, our problems began right away, and I'm very disappointed with the hotel because of the older man at reception. We'd booked a room with a double bed but got two singles. When I went back to reception, the older man said he couldn't do anything because I'd booked through Expedia. I have never used Expedia; all my booking and confirmation details were on booking.com. He also said I had paid 50 euros, but my booking and bank statements showed I'd paid over 70 euros through booking.com after upgrading to get a double room. He was rude, arrogant, and completely unhelpful, saying there was nothing he could do and that he didn't care. I wouldn't recommend the hotel after this experience, even though there was nothing else wrong with the place. That man simply shouldn't be in a customer-facing role.

I booked during the Christmas period because the hotel advertised a restaurant serving traditional Czech dishes. Ostrava, like many places, closes almost completely at Christmas, so I needed somewhere with a restaurant. But the restaurant had apparently been closed for a year, and the spa was shut too, if it even exists. On December 24, the owner told me to ask at the tourist information office and wished me luck. That was a stupid suggestion. Other than breakfast, I had nothing to eat on the 24th, 25th, or all day on the 26th, until I found a pizza place that was open. I've tried contacting the hotel and booking.com, but no one is responding. This dump ruined my Christmas!

A pretty average hotel. Breakfast was included and okay, though nothing special, and some of the rohlik was stale and rock hard. The rooms were clean, and we got fresh towels every day. I'd recommend it if you just need somewhere to sleep.
