My server was really disrespectful, and I felt completely unwelcome.

We were out hiking most of the time, so the room mainly needed to be somewhere to sleep, and it worked for us. The price made it clear this wasn’t a fancy place. On arrival we could pick between two rooms and chose the one without a skylight, since morning sun makes it hard for us to sleep. Our room facing outward was lovely, and we didn’t hear traffic despite the hotel being beside the road. Breakfast was a buffet, with a different homemade cake each day that I especially liked. Some guests might want dark bread or pastries. The staff seemed like they would have been nice. The room had a mix of furniture styles, which didn’t bother us, though the bed wobbled a little and the lamps over it got in the way when sitting up. The toilet and shower were reached from the hallway within the room.

The hotel is in a great spot in any season, with a good starting point for hiking, skiing, and evening entertainment. The kitchen was very good, the staff pleasant, and the price reasonable. Meals were fresh and tasty, and I never felt they were skimping on portions. Breakfast and dinner were Czech-standard fare rather than a gourmet experience. It’s a hotel from the 1920s, but so many later “improvements” have stripped away much of its First Republic quality. The furnishings reflect totalitarian-era style and quality and could use replacing. We managed to get through a long weekend on the terrible bed. The hotel changed operators a few days ago, so I wouldn’t blame the new team for those older issues.
