I love this place, quirks and all. For 51 Euros, including breakfast, my single room felt like a bargain, and the location is unbeatable. Hotel Slovan in Plzen has a gorgeous building, with old wood, grand atrium columns, and beautiful interior architecture. The lady at reception was cheerful and welcoming, and made me feel like royalty in this slightly haunted-feeling hotel. It really does feel like stepping into another era, with a gloriously old-time smell and furniture that must be a millennium old. Everything is worn, but clean and usable. The new mattress was comically hard, and the heater ran full blast with no control. Since the main street is busy, I had to keep the window shut. There was no bar after 9 PM, so no nightcap, but the quiet was nice. Breakfast in the huge restaurant was a treat. The scrambled eggs tasted like real eggs, though the tables had crumbs and rumpled napkins. I saw no waiters during my 30-40 minute meal, so it was self-service. This diamond in the rough could use some investment, but I still love its character and would recommend it to anyone who prefers authentic charm to a cookie-cutter hotel.

I spent a week here in July of 2025, and the location made it really convenient. Shops and outdoor restaurants are just steps away in the centre. My spacious room looked out over the Pilsen, with church bells ringing every hour. Inside, it has an old-world feel, full of ornate fixtures and original vintage details. The room was comfortable, though dated. It isn't a luxury hotel with all the modern touches, but it works well as a comfortable, convenient place to stay. There's a breakfast buffet every morning, adequate to get the day started.

The room was big, clean, and nice, and the service was friendly. The hotel is very old and has a bit of a Shining look. The mini toiletries were really basic, just shampoo and soap, and there was no water. Breakfast is a must, but the food was okay, nothing special. They were happy to make a fried egg.

We got good value for the price, and the staff were friendly enough to keep our luggage after checkout. The old building is beautiful and the location is excellent, right by a nice park in the centre. Our room was spacious and clean, but we had asked for one double bed and ended up with two separate beds. The balcony looked lovely, though it was terribly dirty and we weren't going to use it anyway. Breakfast was basic.

The location is ideal, on a lovely park near the central square and lots of shops. It was easy to get around on foot or take the nearby tram. Breakfast was good, and overnight parking cost a fair $6. Some of the downsides may be more noticeable for women traveling here: the hallways can be dark at night, and the bathroom is shared. There was always an employee around, either the receptionist or the night watchman, and more expensive rooms may have a private bathroom. The hotel is a step back in time. The building is beautiful, and the large doors, grand staircase, and shared facilities fit its Communist-era style. I can see why people expecting a sleek modern hotel might leave a negative review, but I enjoyed the retro feel.
