Art Deco Imperial Hotel

There’s an old world feel to the place that suits Prague, and we hope to return soon. Our simple room had everything we needed, with a very comfortable bed. The staff were always helpful, and reception can keep your bags. A really excellent hotel for such a reasonable price.

The location worked really well for us: Charles Bridge and the astronomical clock tower are about a 15-20 minute walk away. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the bathrooms were clean and well equipped. Rooms have modern amenities like flat screen TVs and WiFi, along with upgraded furnishings. The hotel has been tastefully updated while keeping its 1912 roots and a sense of solid old bones. Its restaurant still has the original tiled look, which gives it a nostalgic and distinctive feel. I’d highly recommend it.

The breakfast was good, and the staff in the breakfast restaurant were attentive and served us well. The hotel itself is comfortable and well appointed, though our Deluxe room’s bathroom was particularly small, and there were no USB points. We were first given a room whose window faced a wall, despite the advertised courtyard or street view, but they did let us switch to one with a street view. We’re senior citizens and seasoned travellers, and good hotels with good service matter to us. We try to leave positive reviews, knowing things aren’t always perfect. Here, some front desk and bar staff had an attitude that made the stay uncomfortable. At 5:30pm, after a day in Prague centre, we were told we couldn’t use the hotel bar because a cruise party had exclusive access until 6:30pm. The barman initially said he wouldn’t serve my wife and me, even though the bar was empty. After a tense discussion with the duty manager and front desk, they offered drinks only to take to our room. They eventually let us sit in the residents bar, but treated us terribly. On our first of three days, we’d also asked to book dinner at the restaurant and were told it was fully booked for our whole stay. As hotel guests, we expected to be able to dine there. Some staff were dismissive and sharp, so we wouldn’t recommend this hotel.

Breakfast was fab, especially the omelette and eggs Benedict, and the room where it’s served is stunning. The hotel itself is beautiful, and Prague is a beautiful city. We’d certainly come back. We spent three nights in room 107 on the side of the building. It was lovely, with an extremely comfortable bed. There’s no full length mirror, though, and if you have long hair, bring your own hairdryer or you’ll be trying to dry it for a couple of hours. We arrived early on Sunday and paid an extra €20 to get into the room sooner. On departure day, we stayed a couple of hours later for a €30 fee. We used the private transfer to and from the airport. The gentleman who picked us up was very nice and helpful, and shared lots of information on the way to the hotel. It took the stress out of everything, so I’d highly recommend it. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful overall. My one criticism is that the two gentlemen at reception when we arrived Sunday morning weren’t very friendly or helpful. Thankfully, the next day David was working at reception. He was absolutely lovely and couldn’t do enough to help us.
