Castle Residence Praha

The quiet setting, pleasant courtyard and complimentary rides to and from the metro were the best parts. But the price feels too high for what you get. The place seems dated, from the old furniture to the basic hand soap in a plastic bottle. Breakfast was frustrating too, since everyone has to keep an eye on their egg in a shared pot of hot water or someone might take it. Compared with a proper four-star stay like Hotel Werk in Romania, where the toiletries, hairdryers and other details feel modern, this one doesn’t come across as four-star.

The reception staff were friendly, and staying on Prague’s edge made for a good base without being in the city center. The restaurant was a different story. We came down at 9:30 and asked for more scrambled eggs because there weren’t any left. The waitresses seemed annoyed, then began clearing up while we were still eating. As I left, an older man pointed to his watch and told me it was 10:15 and breakfast ended at 10:00. If breakfast runs until 10, guests should still be able to get food at 9:50. Maybe those are the rules, or maybe the staff aren’t happy in their jobs. A bit more kindness would go a long way.

The pool was a real bonus for families with children, and the shuttle was quick, with excellent drivers. We also enjoyed the restaurant, where the food was tasty and a convenient choice when we didn’t feel like going into the city for dinner. Staff were friendly and capable, and our room was spacious and very clean.

The pool was a pleasant surprise, especially since it uses salt water, and the sauna was HOT :) We could also get a free ride to the nearest subway station or Prague ZOO when we needed one. It’s a quiet place outside the busy center, so we didn’t have to deal with drunk tourists. Service and breakfast were good, and our room was clean. We only stayed a night, but now we know where to book next time we’re in Prague.
