Lampi Hotel Prague

The shower had a huge leak after just 10 seconds of use, with water coming through the tiles and shower tray. I reported it and was given four towels that were supposed to last two or three days. The room then smelled damp, and we couldn’t shower or get ready for the days and nights we had planned. The owner promised a partial refund but has ignored my request. For what we paid, it’s a joke. The owner is unprofessional and penny-pinching, the place is unhygienic and the facilities are worn out.

The biggest problem was the noise and draft at the entrance door. It isn’t properly sealed, so you hear everything in the hallway and sometimes in other apartments or rooms. A draft comes through the stairwell and makes doors bang against their frames. At this price, it gets irritating. This is presented as a hotel, but it’s really a short-term apartment rental in an old tenement building. Some apartments have been turned into rooms with kitchenettes. There’s no reception or staff, just a texted code for the intercom and a safe by the door with the keys. It’s entirely self-service, so don’t expect hotel extras. The standard is okay, the bed is comfortable, and the kitchenette and general amenities are useful. The location is quiet and decent, with plenty of nearby places to eat. I stayed during the Christmas market and EPT poker tournament, so the prices didn’t match the quality. Since prices were high across the city, I see that as the market rate rather than a specific drawback. Based on the hotel’s rates at other times, it seems fair enough. The name is misleading, though.

For three nights, two of us paid €210, which is excellent value by Prague standards. The apartment has a kitchen with a few things for cooking, and if the price stays about the same, I’d recommend Lampi Hotel. The room door is fairly thin, though we also had a second connecting door that muffled the noise reasonably well. I booked the Lampi “Hotel” through Booking at the beginning of 2024. It’s more like a residential complex where different parties rent out apartments and flats, with no reception or usual hotel services. Despite the name and what some reviews say, the apartments are there. Before arrival you’re sent a code for the entrance and another for the combination lock on the room door. The message wasn’t displayed beforehand, which caused me a problem, but I was able to call a number and get it sorted within five minutes.

We got great help when we arrived, and the apartment was in very good condition. The “hotel” label is misleading, since it feels more like a B&B. My one complaint was the heat: the room was around 24°C even though it wasn’t much warmer outside. I can imagine it getting much hotter in summer. Still, it was a great B&B 😉
