Hotel Otakar

The building has a lot of character, and the area is handy for bars, restaurants and shops. Martin was on duty when we arrived, dressed smartly and very polite and helpful. My problem was the young woman working the evening shift. She was very rude, and that's why I can't give five stars. This happened between 21:00 and 21:30 on Wednesday 11th December, while I was with my elderly father. Other customers were there and seemed uncomfortable too. It may be on camera. I don't think she is suited to this kind of work. My son lives in Prague, so I visit three or four times a year. We’re looking at eight days in April, 21 in July and seven in October, but I won't book at the hotel while she still works there.

Our group of seven got a mix of rooms. The ground-floor one smelled so bad that we had to switch it, while the top-floor room was all right, with a decent shower and comfortable beds. We also found ants on the last day and raised a complaint. The hotel feels old and run down and could use renovation. We considered the spa, but the smell put us off and we weren't sure it was clean. It’s about a 20-minute tram ride to the Old Town. For a three-star place, you get what you pay for.

Air circulation in the room wasn't good. The top-floor windows only opened a little, and the fan didn't do much. One receptionist was also unexpectedly rude, which put a damper on the stay.

The breakfast was really nice, and the staff were friendly. The hotel is in a good spot, right by a tram line.
