The Dominican

We booked a triple room for three adults, two sisters and a nephew, and I had messaged the hotel on WhatsApp well before we arrived to request three separate single beds. I clearly said we didn't want a double or combined setup, and they confirmed it. On arrival, though, they gave us one double bed and an extra spring bed. When I complained, they split us into two rooms instead of properly fixing the booking. The replacement rooms were shocking. The wooden ceiling beams were badly cracked and deteriorated, and the tiny skylight under the roof couldn't be opened, so there was no fresh air. The rooms smelled heavily of moisture and mold. In 30-degree summer heat there was no refrigerator, and we even saw bugs crawling on the floor. I asked to change rooms because of these conditions. Staff said they'd tell management, but nothing was done. This place is poorly managed, unhygienic, and structurally neglected. Don't waste your money.

I was really pleased with my stay, though this hotel won't suit everyone. The building has lots of character and my room had very high ceilings. It's a cool place with a great breakfast each morning, and the staff were super friendly and helpful. The room was cool, too, which suited me better than having loads of space or luxury amenities. The area around the hotel is lively and crowded most of the time, right in the middle of a tourist-heavy part of town. It's a good fit if you want to go drinking and finish the night with ramen. The mattress was thin and not very supportive, though, so it's not ideal if you want the most comfortable bed.

Romana welcomed us at check-in and showed us to our room, and the staff were lovely and friendly at all hours. The bright lounge and breakfast area looked nice, but do NOT eat at the ramen restaurant, it's a tourist trap. Breakfast costs 18 euro per person. We didn't try it, so can't comment on the quality. Our room was spacious, clean, and nicely decorated in an old school style, while still feeling comfortable and homely. The hotel is well designed overall, and the rooms have good noise insulation. The shower and bath had great water pressure. Leaving the window open overnight can mean drunks disturb your sleep. It wasn't a big issue for me, but light sleepers should know. It's right in the center of old town, close to shops, restaurants, sights, and souvenirs. Taxis can't pull up to the front door, but bolt/Uber will stop nearby, about a 3 mins walk. We really enjoyed staying here and would be happy to return.

Katerina, the hotel manager, made each morning feel welcoming, and I looked forward to seeing her warm, friendly face with a glass of Prosecco. She noticed every detail and deserves plenty of praise, and a raise too. The rest of the staff were just as helpful and welcoming. The hotel itself is a jewel in the heart of Prague's old town, with lovely old-world charm. It was clean and well run, breakfast was plentiful and delicious, and we slept wonderfully on mattresses and pillows just to our liking. The customer service was outstanding from start to finish. Thank you!
