Hotel Esprit

The restaurant has an older look, like plenty of hotels and restaurants around here. I’m fine with that, especially given the prices, and I can see how a major renovation would be a challenge for such a big place. We had the discounted menu and got a three-course meal for about what a starter costs at many restaurants. The food tasted great and was nicely presented. The pancakes with warm berries were a particular favorite, and the menu worked well for the whole family.

Housekeeping came every day, and the rooms were kept clean and hygienic overall. The staff doing that work were really good. Still, the rooms are quite small, and the decor feels stuck in the 1980s. The beds were so thin that it felt like lying on the wood. The old TV had four channels, three Czech and one German, and you could only change channels or volume on the set itself. The double windows had barely any seal left, with air coming through the porous wood. There was plaster falling off the wall and visible traces of mold behind the plants.

A cheap place to sleep while trekking. Breakfast was good, just like it looked in the pictures, and the hotel is at the edge of town, close to a mountain trail.

The rooms were actually quite nice and spacious, but the stay was a poor experience. The hotel feels like stepping back in time and hasn’t been renovated in decades. The food was awful and overpriced. Our room key card stopped working twice in one night, and at checkout they tried to charge us 10% more than we had booked for.
