Hotel Slavia

I booked a hotel rather than a hostel for one night on a work trip, mainly because it offered parking, internet, and breakfast. Parking in the courtyard and the back entrance were convenient. The woman at reception was nice, and my first room on the third floor was pleasant. There’s an elevator, too. But there was no Wi-Fi signal in that room. The receptionist moved me without any trouble to another room on the second floor. It felt less cozy, more like a hostel, with carpet. The network appeared there, but I couldn’t get data: a page might load, then the connection would drop and say the internet wasn’t available. The receptionist couldn’t fix it. She said she was only a part-time worker, couldn’t access the office, and couldn’t call the owner. Working on a PC or through remote desktop was out of the question. The room had an old portable TV with only Nova and Nova Cinema on the set-top box, and no remote control. The radiator barely warmed up. Breakfast was a good buffet, though I think a hard-boiled egg could have been included in the 910 CZK price, even though it cost 3.50 CZK. Overall, it was quite an expensive hostel.

We held a drawing course in the meeting room. I can’t speak to the accommodation, and the kitchen wasn’t good, so I can’t recommend that either. What I can rate is the ground-floor café: great coffee and pastries at moderate prices, with friendly staff. The hotel is right by Tábor train station and easy to reach. You can park in front of the station, though there’s a charge on weekdays. Hotel guests can park in the courtyard.

We stayed with a small child, and they lent us a cot and duvet for free. The staff were lovely and attentive, from the cleaner to the receptionist. Our room, 306, was very spacious: instead of the usual tiny hallway, it had a couch, table, coat rack, and fridge, plus at least another 10 m where our child could run around safely. The hotel has its faults, but it has its charm too.

The best part was the staff. Everyone was helpful, accommodating, and always smiling. Breakfast was good, and the rooms were clean, though modestly equipped with older furniture. We’d told them well ahead that we were coming as a couple, but only a room with separate beds was available. It didn’t bother us since we were there for a festival. A basic place, but at a reasonable price for accommodation in Tábor, so I can recommend it.
