Hotel Šumava

The food was okay, but flies were a real nuisance during dinner and breakfast, landing on the food in different rooms. I didn't notice any effort to deal with them. The mattress could be much better, and there were no smoke detectors in the rooms or common areas, or emergency alarm buttons to alert other guests in case of a fire. There were some emergency lights in the hallway. For me, the flies and fire safety each take a star off what would otherwise be a four-star hotel. We got a really nice welcome from the friendly staff. They didn't speak English, but we managed with a little German. The room looked tidy, had plenty of storage, and offered local and satellite channels, including English and French stations. The shower worked well, and there was private parking. We ate at the restaurant and had breakfast there too.

The staff were friendly, and dinner was very good. We had the schnitzel platter, with homemade schnitzels and cordon bleu, and both tasted great.

The waiter was really friendly and could speak English, which was a bonus. The food was great.

Good value for the money. The rooms were basic but clean, the restaurant was basic too, and the serving staff were friendly.
