Pivovarský dvůr Zvíkov

The beer was the best I’ve ever tasted, and the food was good too.

The setting among the beautiful countryside, close to two rivers and an impressive castle, was a highlight. We were traveling from Austria to Germany with two friends and stayed one night in April 2025, on our first visit to Czechia. I can imagine families enjoying it too. The person who welcomed us spoke perfect German and English, and someone else helped us in English the next morning. Dinner at the restaurant and breakfast were tasty and plentiful, and so was the beer. I’ve no complaints. One night was too short, and it made me want to come back. Thanks very much!

My family and I went to Pivovarsky Dvur for lunch and arrived at 15:10. We were told a wedding was taking place and food service would start at 16:00. We agreed to wait and ordered drinks, with the server being very nice at first. At 16:00 we were told we’d have to wait until 16:30. Then, at 16:20, we saw other tables getting food, including guests who had arrived after us. My mom asked inside, and the server apologized and took our order. The food came fairly quickly, and we tried to be understanding about the wedding making things hectic. Then I found a black hair in my main course. When I showed the server, she removed it and asked if I wanted the rest packed to take away. I said I didn’t want to continue eating that dish and wanted a replacement. They brought a new portion and said the chef apologized, but didn’t know how the hair got there because he was bald. I don’t know if they meant it as a joke, but it was the wrong moment. I tried the replacement and bit into a small metal ammunition cartridge in the meat. That was it for me, I lost my appetite. My mom told the staff what had happened. They asked if I had broken a tooth, but did nothing else. Nobody came to our table to apologize or even speak with us. My dad finished the rest of the food to be polite. I work in hospitality and wasn’t at all happy with how this was handled. I’m not someone who complains, and neither are my parents. I understand that things can go wrong, but this should have been dealt with differently. I gave two stars because my mom and dad really liked the beer, but the service was very disappointing.

The rooms were simple but comfortable, and our dogs loved the garden and the woods beyond it. The setting is gorgeous, tucked between the castle and the river gorge. Everyone was friendly, helpful, professional, and accommodating, and the service was fantastic. The beer is excellent too. I’ve only praise for the place and would definitely come back!
