The rooms are roomy and have a castle feel, right down to the four-poster beds. I also loved relaxing by the garden pond, and the terrace looks out over lovely green hills. From the tower, you get views all around. The two women who work here are so welcoming. They’ve been here for over 20 and 40 years, and really make you feel at home. Breakfast was great, too. Dinner, though, didn’t feel worth the price. “Rustic” is putting it kindly. I’d book bed and breakfast and eat elsewhere. The chef pointed us to Zum Eichambt, about a 10-minute drive away, and we had a great meal there.

There’s a €5 parking option right by the castle entrance, or you can park lower down and hike up. We drove through the nursing home parking lot and parked near the trail on the other side. There’s another small lot about halfway up. It’s a good climb of roughly 1,500 meters, with lovely views of the castle from below. After the parking area, there’s a ticket booth, and entry costs €6 even if you don’t go inside. The courtyard is spacious, with places to sit and lunch served there. The castle itself is small but well preserved. Climbing the tower is worth it for the views.

We headed up to Burg Arras with the kids, and they let us in even though it was their rühetag. We could look around the museum and then have a fantastic lunch on the terrace. The landlord and lady were enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and so friendly that my daughter even gave the landlady a big hug. A beautiful spot, lovely terrace, good food, and amazing service. We had a great visit, and I’d recommend stopping by Burg Arras.

I loved being able to wander around and explore without having to join a set tour. There was plenty to see, and the climb up the tower was a highlight. The terrace has an amazing view, and the woman serving us was really friendly. We also had a piece of hazelnut cake that was surprisingly good. My favorite castle we visited in the area.

The patio and garden are beautiful, with priceless views. The meals were delicious and plentiful, and breakfast had a nice range of typical German food, including soft-boiled eggs, deli meat, rolls, and bread. Roman, the manager, was especially helpful in finding a winemaker who’d host us on a Sunday. Most of the staff were friendly, too. Staying somewhere with centuries of history was a special experience, but the price was enormous. Sleep was difficult: the room felt stuffy and warm, and opening the big windows let in too many insects because there were no screens. The linens were rough and scratchy, and I couldn’t get comfortable. I felt like the Princess and the Pea. Still, I did get to sleep in a real castle.
