The service was top-notch.

The staff were especially friendly and helpful, and assigned restaurant seating added a calm, relaxed feel. At busy breakfast times, though, queues sometimes formed around the coffee and tea machines. Pots of filter coffee could help things run more smoothly. We stayed in a roomy apartment with two separate bedrooms and a spacious eat-in kitchen, a comfortable place to rest after an active day. The hotel's historic charm made the stay special, and its location is handy for hikes, with Toskana Therme Bad Sulza only a few minutes away. We felt very welcome and left rested and relaxed. It would be a nice extra if spa package guests received a bag with a bathrobe and sauna towel, but that's a minor point. We'd love to return and wholeheartedly recommend the hotel.

The restaurant was the standout for us. The food was comparable to a Michelin-starred restaurant, and while it isn't cheap, the quality makes the price fair. The resort is huge, so you can spend your time there just enjoying the food, as we did. We stayed for a weekend in the maisonette rooms at Auerstedt Castle, which felt more like spacious apartments. Everyone we encountered, from room service and the restaurant to reception, was incredibly friendly. The setting is very remote, with farmland, rolling hills, and charming little villages all around, almost like Tuscany. It's a great area for cyclists, though it can feel like there's nothing else for miles. The thermal baths are a five-minute walk away and must be lovely, but they were very crowded during our Valentine's Day weekend, so they weren't for us.
