The crowded thermal area made it hard to relax, and the bedding wasn't comfortable either. My synthetic pillow was worn out, and in the evenings I was stuck sitting on the bed in a small room. There was no evening entertainment, no cocktail snacks, and no TV in the lounge or bar for watching football or handball. I picked this hotel after seeing it receive a TV award, hoping for good food and a relaxing stay. The restaurant felt more like a self-service canteen: no reservations or escorting, and two young waiters stood by the entrance without greeting anyone. The buffet had plenty of salads, which is all I could manage to eat over three days, but no fresh cooking station. There was one dry meat dish, one dry fish dish, hot vegetables and a creamy or cheesy vegetarian dish. Dessert was disappointing; I asked for a scoop of vanilla ice cream and was told it wasn't available. I wouldn't pay €42,90 for a 250g rum steak, and nothing on the à la carte menu seemed worth its high price. Breakfast had lots of choices, but many were low quality. Parking was a problem from the start. The hotel has no private parking, and the garage across the road has a low 2.05-meter height limit. After I had already driven around four times, I asked the receptionist where to park. He said, “On the street.” My husband asked where a camper could normally park, and the answer was, “I don’t know.” After a long drive, I was frustrated enough to ask if I should just go home. He raised his hands and said, “What should I do!?” I ended up parking far from the hotel. A receptionist at a four-star hotel should know nearby options, or ask a colleague if unsure. A lot of details seemed overlooked for a four-star place. Instructions were only in German, apart from an alcohol display on the buffet marked “not for service,” which was funny. The staff were friendly apart from the person who greeted me on the first day. Better attention to service instead of cost saving would make a big difference.

We held a workshop for 10 people here and had a really good experience. The riverside room was lovely, and the service was great. Lunch was a very good two-course meal, with nice desserts in the afternoon. Recommended!

The town doesn't offer much to see or do, so this feels more like a place to unwind than a base for exploring. We enjoyed our one-night stay, and the staff were kind and attentive. The view from our rather small room was the best part. Breakfast was good apart from the limited bread selection, which felt below what you'd expect at a wellness hotel. The other food and service were fine. The sauna and wellness area is spacious, though be aware the sauna zones are nude. English-speaking visitors may also find the signs and information unclear. At the spa, the floor around the indoor pool and jacuzzi was very wet and slippery, and didn't seem to get dried or cleaned often. That's a safety concern, especially for older guests; warning signs or more staff attention would help. The indoor pool also felt colder than you'd expect in a spa, and a slightly higher temperature would be more comfortable. The sauna ceremonies are held in smaller saunas that fill up quickly. Since hotel guests pay to use the wellness facilities, restricting outside visitors at busy times could reduce crowding. A few changes to safety and capacity would improve the experience.

Breakfast was a wonderful buffet, with options from vegan food to eggs and bacon and plenty in between. We also had a very enjoyable dinner at the hotel restaurant, and the staff made sure we had enough sauna towels. We had a lovely river view from our room at the Emser Hotel. It came with two bathrobes, two sauna towels, two pairs of slippers, breakfast and Therme entry. The front desk said we could swap the robes for another size if needed, but they fit us perfectly. Staff were very friendly and helpful, and the reception team spoke several languages. Getting to the Therme was especially convenient: we could walk there from our room without going outside or checking in at the front desk, using our own entrance. We explored several pools and a few saunas on the first afternoon, including a rainwater mineral shower. It was nice not to rush through everything, since we knew we'd be back the next day. My favorite was the 36-38 degree pool, which really helped my aching knee. We also saw that hotel guests could enter the Therme from 8am. We booked two nights and would love to return soon.

The staff were exceptionally friendly and ready to help, and breakfast was excellent. The hotel itself is beautifully designed, with plush blue velvet and high-end finishes. The rooms are fairly small, though the bathrooms look stylish and sit behind a sliding wall. A heads-up for visitors unfamiliar with the local spa customs: the facilities are clothing-optional in the European style. All sauna areas are nude, and most pool and spa activities are also without swimsuits. I wasn't prepared for that and didn't want that kind of experience, so the facilities were effectively unusable for me and the stay was very disappointing. Bad Ems is a pretty spa town, but this setup wasn't for me.
